My students are in dire need of some effective earplugs to protect their hearing while still being able to hear their music and a few new sets of steel drum mallets to replace the ones that are falling apart!
Our practice room is a small portable, completely packed with steel drums and nothing but some carpets to soak up and dampen the music. This has led to students complaining of headaches and pain in their ears from rehearsal. These earplugs are not only VERY effective in protecting the ear by lowering the overall sound level, but they can be taken apart and soaked/washed to be used again!
Currently, we are making do with construction-grade plugs that cause pressure to build up in the ear canal and almost completely eliminate sound to the player.
These kids love to play and sound amazing for the mixed levels we have! I want to give them every possible tool they need as we push through this new school year. Every little bit counts, thank you.
