These manipulatives are useful to lower level readers as many find moving creative and colorful learning tools more interesting than holding an entire book that is above their reading level. These tools would enable the students to individually or in small cooperative groupings work on their own specific needs while allowing the rest of the class to move forward with their own level reading activities. Many of these students are embarrassed that they are so far below level and desire to move forward in reading but don’t want to share out in the class for fear of laughing.
