My students read everything they can get their hands on. Read to self is one of their favorite centers, and they are always excited for "Drop Everything And Read" (D.E.A.R.) time in the morning. My students love picking out a book and reading it to themselves. I want all of my students to feel successful, and a leveled library will enable each student to choose a "just right" book and apply their reading skills. I would love to create a leveled library in my classroom that would enable my first graders to find books on their independent reading level. I want to foster a love of reading and learning, and I want to help my students learn how to find books that are "just right" for them to grow toward their goals.
Having a leveled classroom library will give students access to the materials and tools they need to practice and reinforce what they learn in reading then implement those reading strategies independently. With the leveled library, students will have a variety of texts to browse to help them achieve their individual goals, boost their reading confidence, and develop of a love of reading.
