My students do not come from homes that have many books, so I feel it is my job to help them see books as the treasures that they are. My goal is to expose them to a variety of different titles, award winners, and genres to help them develop a lifetime love of books. I would want students to collect books from the classroom library and keep them in these special bins so that they can be kept safe from messy desks and possibly getting destroyed.
Students can use these books to reach their personal Accelerated Reading Program goals. These goals are celebrated throughout the whole school and have demonstrated an increase in test scores. Having a bin of books readily available will help them spend more time reading instead of searching for books. My hope is that students will become so engaged that they will be begging to take these books home to finish!
