Not only will students be able to use these mats to do a tumbling and balance unit; they will also be able to use them to set up a multitude of their favorite games used to work on skill development and teamwork. I love to use the mats to set up obstacle courses where students work in teams to complete tasks/challenges. The mats that we currently have at our school are small and old (possibly from the 1800's) Ha! I have also submitted for some volleyball poles/standards so that our students can take part in a volleyball unit. These can also be used for many other games and activities throughout the year.
Some of the students' favorite games and activities that they will be able to participate in are: Star Wars, Castle Ball, Oscar's Trash Can, Blizzard Tag, Scrabble Fitness, Math Pyramid, Battleship, Floor Hockey, Volleyball, and many more. The great part about physical education equipment is that it can be used in so many different ways as long as a teacher is creative. Being creative and coming up with new and fun activities and games that the students will enjoy is one of my favorite parts about being a teacher.
