Our native English speaking/reading students have shelves full of books--unfortunately, our ESL students have less than a half shelf of books written in Spanish. It is absolutely essential that these students have the same opportunity and experience in our library. By building our Spanish book section within our library, we are showing our ESL students that they are part of our school community! ESL students will have the ability to check out books in Spanish, which will build, foster, and sustain a reading culture within the school. Recreational reading is a right all students in school should have.
