Mental health issues are increasing daily and the numbers are rising significantly in our younger children. I chose social emotional learning games that my students can engage in during individual and small group counseling sessions. Play therapy is a technique that is often used with younger students. Through play I would be able to help children learn healthy behaviors, understand/identify different emotions, conflict resolution, self-control, self- respect, problem solving, how to effectively express their feelings , and communication skills. Please help make individual counseling and small group counseling more meaningful and engaging to the age groups that I service.
These activities will help my students feel more comfortable in our sessions because they will be learning through play which is something that every child loves to do.
According to Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, individuals must satisfy lower level deficit needs before progressing on to meet higher level growth needs. We must satisfy their emotional needs in order for them to excel academically. If a child is lacking love and attention, being bullied, have low self esteem, or do not feel safe they have a higher chance of not focusing on their work. Help me help my students understand their emotions, their situations, and who they are.
