"I got it! I figured it out!" These are the words of my expectant and curious students, even in the face of the literacy gaps they have in their learning. These students crave connections to the world around them. They seek opportunities to explore literacy through the lens of mathematics, social studies, science and writing. They are excited to work collaboratively with one another to solve puzzles and use literacy skills to connect their learning. My students are middle school age 10 -13 years old. They are identified as needing intervention in literacy, but that has not dimished their desire to learn and succeed.
