Our young scientists need lab coats. These middle-grade students are scientists every time we step into the lab. Students are accustomed to donning safety glasses and following proper procedures; however, we have no way to protect our clothing while performing experiments.
Lab coats would help to protect students clothing while providing a professional practice that further links them to future careers in the working world. Lab coats will provide a necessary tool for our student scientists to incorporate working world practices into our daily routine within the lab. The lab coats will help to protect students while performing experiments.
Although we perform safe experiments, it often involves chemicals or ingredients that can stain clothing; therefore, this project would help to protect students. Furthermore, the ability to put on lab coats will create a source of engagement to excite students about lab activities and increase learning potential.
