Creating a maker space for our students in the school library will provide hands-on, creative ways to encourage students to design, experiment, build and invent as they engage in science, engineering and tinkering.
Maker spaces encourage flexible thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration by providing an environment where students can create and dream up new ideas. Including materials like K'nex and Q-BA-MAZE 2.0 allow the students to use basic engineering skills to build ramps, mazes, towers, and more. The Goldie Blox sets will encourage girls to engage in basic engineering, which has in the past lent itself more towards boys. The duck tape, beads, LEGOS, and other material are open-ended and can be used in a variety of ways to spark ideas and push the boundaries of the students' imaginations.
