Working at a desk isn't always the most comfortable option for getting work done. Alternative seating in the classroom allows students to have the freedom of choosing their own seating arrangement that best fits their learning needs. By giving students a choice they are learning to make appropriate and successful decisions in the classroom. Flexible seating allows students to spread out in the classroom giving them their own work space. This can help to reduce the behavior problems within the classroom and increase student engagement.
Seating options for students include wobble stools and cushions, exercise balls and a low table.
All of these options allow the students to sit comfortably and stay focused. Kids can work at the low table while sitting on the wobble stools. Students can grab a clip board and sit on the rug with a pillow, or replace their desk chair with an exercise ball.
Students spend most of their day in a classroom. Learning doesn't need to be uncomfortable. I like to work in comfort and my students should be able to as well!
