I am the Special Education Liaison and have made it my goal to provide clean clothing for my students, through an initiative called “Clean Clothes Count”. We are creating a sensory room for our students with multiple disabilities. This room will aid in them learning how to care for themselves. The washer and dryer placed in this room, where there is a machine hook-up, will be used to teach these students how to wash their own clothing. We want to teach these students independence and show them the value they can add to their own lives and the lives of their fellow students with hard work and proper hygiene. A washer and dryer would allow us to develop and implement this program for our disabled students.
The washer and dryer will also be used for students who do not have access to one at their homes. This resource will give our students the opportunity to have their clothes washed during the school day so that they can return home in clean clothing.
