I teach in a Behavior Resource Program. My students are 6th, 7th, and 8th graders who have difficulty managing a full day in a general education classroom. My primary responsibility is to teach behavioral and social skills to improve the quality of their education, friendships and future prospects.
The Behavior Resource Program provides students with a safe environment to reflect and process on their choices throughout the day. These are students who tend to have a negative relationship with school. I try to create a program where they feel motivated to change their behavior and develop a more positive relationship with teachers and school itself. One way I do this is to develop a class culture where the students feel welcome and an overall sense of belonging.
