A love of reading is an essential element for academic success. Having sets of books that have fun characters they love to read about is key. At my school, we are making great gains in reading. My students love books. The books I have chosen are books they are interested in. They absolutely love to read books that are easy readers to start them off on a successful path for learning how to read. I selected Biscuit books, Pete the Cat, and Piggie and Gerald books to start building my classroom library.
This is my first project on Donors Choose because I know how important it is to get a classroom library started. When students like what they are reading, they are more likely to read the books. With a wide variety of reading materials, learning can be differentiated based on the students' needs. I also requested book bins in this project so my students can choose their own books from our library to read independently. Having their own opportunity to read a story on their own after we have read it together as a class is a great way to build story comprehension and fluency. Research has shown that multiple readings of a book can help children become stronger readers. This project will allow them to practice the skills we will learn to become strong readers.
