I love providing challenges for my students and watching their thought processes as they utilize the many strategies and materials to solve problems and defend their reasoning. I am a firm believer that people learn through doing. I also believe that every mistake is a learning opportunity. Within my classroom, I provide many opportunities for hands-on learning for students to explore many ways to solve problems. If one of the ways do not work, I challenge them to find out why and explore strategies to fix their mistake. Even at the early age of five, students are able to cooperatively work in pairs and in small groups in order to explore the materials and collaborate throughout the learning process. I am requesting math learning centers and materials to provide my scholars with the proper tools for their exploration. The materials will be used to count, compare, compose/decompose numbers, measurement, geometry, and data analysis. My students love to learn, and the donated materials will encourage their growth and confidence in mathematics.
