We would like to create a reading area in our classroom that lets children's imaginations soar! We have requested a large stuffed dragon and wooden castle. Our purpose is to draw children into a a magical kingdom that allows them to believe that books can take them anywhere! Not only are these items eye catching, children can also use them as props to create their own fairy tales or learn about the history of real knights and castles.
When children develop a love for reading, it opens the door to many other areas. We would like for our pre-k students to see reading as an adventure, not a chore. Children may have many high tech games and devices that help with basic skills, but do not necessarily allow children to be creative. If we do not provide our children with tangible props or toys that inspire, then the use of imagination will become a lost art!
