Tea has health benefits and is known to calm nerves. I saw the benefits of allowing teenage students to have a cup of tea or cocoa during the school day after spending a few weeks in at a private school in Northern England. When my advanced students requested that we have tea during our unit on Agatha Christie (the English author known as the "Queen of Mystery"), I thought that I must have a classroom kettle for the whole year and years after. This would support the students who often have issues with anxiety and nerves that keep them from learning at their potential. Tea also promotes a sense of community and belonging.
