Hello! I teach Honors Algebra 2 and Honors Pre-Calculus. We use TI-84 Graphing Calculators daily in these upper level math courses. Students go home and are expected to do the same work at home. The problem is, most of my students cannot afford this technology. I have taught math for 23 years. I assure you, there is a STRONG correlation between practicing mathematics (homework) and grade earned! I am trying to find a way to get my students to practice at home. The Hammy Lottery was born. Drawings are at the end of each quarter. Students EARN a ticket every week if they complete all assigned work for that week at a 70% or better. It's working! Last quarter, I was funded for 1 calculator. The student who earned it in the lottery is so grateful! He wants to be an engineer and now feels he is one step closer. He is now doing every homework assignment! The difference is AMAZING! You can make that happen again!
