I teach English/Language Arts to high schoolers. My students come in to class already hating it because it can be difficult for many or has been taught boring in the past. I strive to make the literature come alive for my students in an environment where they feel at home. When you support my project you are allowing me to provide a space for my kids where they know they’ll have a pencil, a comfortable learning space, and their biggest fan rooting for them to succeed! My students look forward to fresh books to read, materials and supplies needed to practice their skills and classroom decor that will make them feel right at home. Some supplies that will help me to establish this ambiance of home and success for my students are bookshelves to create an in class library. Floor lamps so I can turn off bright, florescent lights and create warmth. Construction paper, so they can visualize the concepts and vocabulary being taught. Loose leaf paper, because my students don’t always come prepared and I don’t want them to receive a zero simply because they couldn’t afford supplies. Cleaning wipes, because they’re germy mini people and if they’re sick, they can’t learn. All of these requests seem so simple but are necessary in beginning a new school year. Thank you all in advance from Ms.Hickox’s 10th graders!
