The first time I read Mo Willem's " We Are In A Book" to my students, they were amused and delighted by Gerald and Piggie and they did exactly as the characters wanted- asked me to read it again. That book set the stage for a group of second graders who love to read and listen to books. They need the motivation to read at home. They cannot become strong readers without reading outside of school. I want them to build their own home libraries beginning with their own Elephant and Piggie book.
