My 3rd grade science students are almost all from low income families. Many of their parents are migrants, and most do no speak English. I try to provide them with as much hands-on learning as possible. This makes the language barrier easier to overcome. It also increases student engagement, which increases learning. I want to expose them to things and give them opportunities to explore our world, that they may not get at home, or eslewhere.
