My second graders are a wonderful group of students who want to learn. They all love math. The majority of my students are from families who are identified as migrant and move with the rotation of the crops. Most of the families are Non-English speaking, with the exception of the students in my classroom. So, there is little to no help at home for the student if they do not understand the math skill. My school is a high poverty school. All students who attend receive free breakfast and lunch.
My classroom is also an inclusion classroom, which means many of my students are identified as having learning difficulties and receive additional services to support them. This means it may take them longer to learn a concept. Being able to work in centers and use the manipulatives that come with them will help with their learning. I want to give my students as many opportunities to practice the math skills as possible. This will only help them to succeed.
