I am excited welcome my students back to the music room for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic, but we will not be able to use much of our equipment. There are restrictions on sharing materials, and a lot of the instruments in the music room would be ruined if we used disinfectant wipes on them. Recorders spread aerosols throughout the room. Even singing is only allowed for a limited amount of the class time. Our solution? Boomwhackers!
Boomwhackers are the perfect pandemic instrument. They are made of sturdy plastic, so they are quickly sanitized between students. They are easily played while maintaining social distancing.
We can use the Boomwhackers to perform melodies and harmonies and learn to read musical notation. And we can enjoy playing music together. Teaching and learning with Boomwhackers is a fun and engaging way to understand music, and to learn the skills necessary to become young musicians.
With Boomwhackers, they will learn to visualize scales. Then they can put them together and practice playing the chords, and from there, they can learn to create their own melodic compositions. Soon they will be able to play along with their favorite songs, creating a Boomwhacker Ensemble!
And the best thing about Boomwhackers is that they will last for years, providing classroom after classroom with a fun and enjoyable musical experience for an unforgettable elementary school music program.
