I am such a fortunate teacher to be teaching at a Title 1 school! Our students face more difficulties than I could have ever imagined as a child. This year, I have students who have faced hunger, addiction, mental illness, domestic violence, and neglect and yet, I see so much resilience! These students find comfort and compassion in our classroom. They find that no matter what they face, our staff will be continuously there to support and believe in them. Many students come to school in September knowing no letter or numbers, yet, through rigorous learning, are leaving kindergarten reading and solving story problems in math. I implement a before school tutoring program for my students, to help my struggling learners get extra one-on-one time to support their learning, where support at home may not be available. I believe that every student needs to know that they are smart and can succeed!
