My school is located in a severely underfunded urban school district. I have the privilege and the awesome responsibility of giving these kids an education that is worthy of their character, not their SES. I tell my kids that I work for them and to my core I believe that. I get a chance to put all of my energy into kids that are for the most part really appreciative. I get the impression that most of my students feel fortunate to have a teacher that really cares.
I care enough to make my classroom a place of engagement, I care enough to grade their work in a timely manner an update their grades daily and weekly, I care enough to reach out to mom and dad if their grades go below a 70%. What I get in return is a room full of students that I get to guide and possibly turn on to the wonderful world of science. It sounds corny but it is an amazing job. It gives so much back if you are willing to put yourself out there and work hard. Here's to all my students and their enthusiasm!!
