Our academic room in our program is intended to provide a more calm relaxed feeling to break up the of the day. As it stands, the academic area in our program has minimal fluorescent lights, LED strip lights, tapestries, and motivational posters hanging around the room. The setting provides a more casual laid back environment intended to make the students feel more comfortable.
We have a community room where my students can come in and meet as a whole to relax. Most of my students come in check in here first and talk with staff and other peers to decompress and break up the day before diving into academics. Here is where we also participate in school wide advisory to strengthen student and teacher bonds.
We also provide a safe space for counseling with certified staff for those who request it. Our program as a whole is voluntary, creating a student driven space is important in their academic success.
