I teach third grade in a title 1 school. More than half of our students receive free or reduced lunch and are English Language Learners. In my classroom 50-60% of my students are qualified to receive ELL services due to their current level of English proficiency. Additionally many others come from homes where another language is spoken. We work with Teacher's College Reading and Writing Project to receive ongoing professional development and curriculum support. Visitors to our school say our school is "magical" - it's a unique community where growth and kindness are celebrated. My students love school. They work hard and strive to grow. I am always looking for ways to meet their learning needs and motivate their passion for learning.
