Most of our students are not able to read the first few months of school. Having access to a listening center will increase their concept of prints, sight word knowledge, and their ability to decode words.
Having access to a listening center through a cd player and cart will increase their concept of prints, sight word knowledge, and their ability to decode words. Having a comfortable seat will allow students to cozy up and listen to a good book. Concepts of print include turning pages, point to each word as you read, holding a book correctly, identifying the difference between a letter and a word, and identifying capitals and punctuation to name a few. Students will utilize the listening center everyday through our guided reading centers. The center will also foster their comprehension skills by being able to complete guided responses which they would not be able to do independently. This will also assist our ELL learners to access texts throughout the year.
