As a Math and Science teacher at my middle school, I have been working hard over the past year to increase the value of our robotics and coding programs for our students. After taking over the struggling robotics program full-time, I managed to obtain a pre-owned Mindstorms EV3 robot kit for students to explore. The students love the kit. Unfortunately, the kit is not complete and is missing several key components. Not having a complete set is limiting the challenges they are able to take on. Our robotics club hopes to be entering competitions soon, and we simply don't have what we need to move beyond basic designs.
Your donation will provide the kits, modules, and expansion accessories needed to aid our expanding afterschool program. In our program, students explore the history behind robotics, create programs to run the EV3 robots, think about and research how robots could be utilized in a multitude of different environments and/or settings, and apply their math skills in various experiments to collaboratively solve problem-based tasks. Most importantly, they will learn to solve problems by applying the engineering design process. They will work with others to imagine, plan, create, and communicate!
Well over 50 students will get to use the equipment each year. I am passionate about getting students excited about STEM, and hope that growing this program might inspire students to pursue a future related to robotics or engineering. Students will explore career futures as software programmers, robotics technicians, robotics engineers, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, and mechanical engineering technologists. Help shape our kids' futures one robot at a time.
