My school is a Title 1 school in a large urban area. The majority of my students are from high-poverty families.
My students are enthusiastic and excited to come to the art room every week. They learn standards-based art concepts but I find myself teaching character and work ethic traits as well like the value of persistence, investigation and intellectual curiosity. They learn that their imaginations can lead them to create and invent amazing things and that this strengthens their young minds and gets them ready for solving real world problems. Elementary students are innately enthusiastic and mine are no different. They surprise me every day with their creativity, imagination and enthusiasm.
