The rug is going to be a great addition to our classroom. I currently have a very old and dirty rug. The rug is used for many different activities. We gather each morning for a morning message. We gather during shared reading for a Socratic seminar. We also read daily at our leveled fluency baskets. The rug is also a space for the students to spread out and gather for workshop activities. I have a few students each year that struggle with sitting in their chair. The wobble chairs will be used to help these students focus while having the luxury of moving at the same time.
A nice large colorful rug and moveable chairs will help my students feel connected and comfortable all at the same time.
First graders are constantly transitioning from one activity to the next and spend a lot of time on their classroom rug. The rug I chose will help students have their own space to sit and listen during story time and direct instruction. It will also provide a space to gather and stretch out during workshop and math centers.
