In today's classrooms, teachers need every trick in the book to help with motivation and success. Our school likes to use incentives to help aid in this endeavor. The motivational tools can be for academics, team work, or good behavior. Once a month, each classroom goes to a "store" to spend their hard-earned "cash" on prizes.
Our school has implemented a Positive Behavior System (PBS) and these incentives and rewards have been included in our behavior plan.
The students absolutely love spending their "Cougar Cash" at the PBS store. These incentives and motivational awards help to get even the most reluctant student to try their best. These items include sensory tools like squishy balls and timers, small trinkets like pencil boxes and emoji key chains, and jewelry like bracelets, rings, and necklaces.
Intrinsic motivation is the ultimate goal. Not all students can be honor roll students, but all students can be good human beings. These items seek out each student’s strength and give them hope and desire to do well in school.
