Reading is a crucial part of a child's education. Moreover, the ability to pronounce the words they read and reiterate them is also essential. But when English is the child's second language, the process becomes a lot more difficult. The lack of educational resources also becomes an additional hindrance to the students' abilities to learn at the same rate of most of their peers.
However, these donations can serve as a helping hand for the academic achievements of our students. The headphones allow the students to easily understand the phonetics of words that they will encounter when using the online educational programs for reading comprehension. This will accelerate their educational progress by multitudes. Hygiene is also a concern. My students have to share the few headphones I currently have, so individually assigned materials offer as an extra preventative measure. The Scholastic journals can also be used for literature. Since these educational journals include fictional texts, articles regarding history and science, nonfictional texts, and multiple project ideas, I can plan a month's worth of lessons and activities in accordance with them. The articles pertaining to history and science are particularly useful, as we don't have textbooks for those subjects. The age appropriate articles included in these journals touch upon real life events and serve as an introduction to understanding the world around them.
