I teach kindergarten at an A school. The class is inclusion which means ESE children with autism/language delays/other disabilities are included, as well as ELL children. Most of the children have been to VPK programs prior to kindergarten so they may have some literacy skills when beginning. My students cherish story time when I read books, change my voice, use props, and define skills such as sequencing, character, setting and predicting. We are even learning about the "genres" of fiction and nonfiction. They love when I say the word with a thick French accent, and when I use my "swami" voice, also with a thick accent, to make predictions. We follow all the standards/benchmarks provided by the State of Florida. I am always looking for creative ways to enhance all of our subject areas. The most important standard of all is for my students to enjoy school and learning, and to come each day with an open mind.
