Flexible seating is taking the education world by storm- and for good reason.
The ability for a student to choose their own seat has several positive outcomes, the most positive and impactful being a sense of ownership and responsibility.
We adults have a difficult time sitting through hour long meetings, so it is no wonder that our kids struggle sitting at school! My classroom currently has one wobble seat that is too small for students, yet they fight over it daily. Everyone always wants the wobble seat! With this project, every child can choose a seat to help them learn their best. We need more wobble seats so we don't clash over who gets to use the one we have. Not everyone loves the wobble seats, so we also need exercise balls and sit disks as an alternative. These seats are great because the student gets whole body exercise and engaging the core engages the brain! Some of my students prefer to work on the floor, which is why we also need options for floor work like the lap desks. Being able to wiggle or choose the environment that will allow the student to put forth their best effort helps engage and focus a student, and having a "special" seat encourages and motivates a student to do their best work.
