I teach in an inner city school in Bridgeport, CT. We are the largest city in the state. My students come from various ethnic backgrounds. 50% have one or more parents/guardians that have immigrated from other countries (for example, Vietnam, Mexico, Haiti, Jamaica, Portugal, Dominican Republic, Columbia, Ecuador and Puerto Rico to name a few). As a result many students speak English as a second language. Furthermore, parental involvement with regards to homework is often limited due to the language barrier. My classroom of 29 students includes various degrees of abilities, including gifted students and students with sensory, language, learning and social difficulties as well as children that are identified as autistic. As a result the demands to meet all the needs of my students can be challenging but rewarding. With your help of funding additional resources we can help all students achieve success.
