My students love reading and they especially love being read aloud to, even as 4th graders. I don't ever plan on taking that aspect out of my classroom but these materials will allow my students even more exposure to fluent reading. The Scholastic Storyworks Text Set focuses on disaster and survival stories which are very engaging for students but is also the theme of our first nine weeks.
I can just imagine them now sitting in a circle around the tablet, with their headphones in, listening to a short story. We need headphones to bring that image to reality. The conversations and the learning that will take place because of that literacy experience is one I want to bring to life in my classroom.
