I am the proud director of all musical classes and activities for grades 3-8 at our school. My students are curious, creative, and spirited, and one thing they are all so excited about is being able to join our beginning band in 5th grade. As a former Band kid myself, I feel so privileged to work to give students the same opportunities I had in grade school.
Students enrolled in Band take one weekly lesson in small, homogeneous groups and rehearse once a week as a large group. Some students rent instruments, but far more have to borrow instruments at no cost from our limited school collection.
I am in my third year of growing this program. We now have more students enrolled in beginning band than ever before! But we need more high quality instruments in order to give all students an equal opportunity to participate and meet students' educational musical needs.
