Our class is the class you hear coming down the hallway. The door is usually open, students are moving about and there is a buzz of chatter, laughter and often singing (mine, as terrible as it may be).
Learning is "loud" in our classroom; we think out loud, we read out loud, we problem solve out loud. We are a little family in room 12 and it sounds like it!
I believe children (and I!) learn best when we have a safe place to be heard, to collaborate, to take risks, to fail and to try again and again.
I love teaching first grade because of the HUGE growth in independence- in becoming readers, writers and problem solvers.
