Some of my students are turned off to science. They have bought into stereotypes that science is boring and that they can not do it. However, I believe just the opposite, that science can be the class that students can't wait to attend. I teach at a Title I school in a low income area of Georgia where students have infinite potential although their families may have finite resources.
