Currently I am teaching two classes of sixth graders in the biggest Title 1 school in my area. Approximately 75% of my students qualify for free and reduced lunches and come from different types of homes.
My goal is to make my classroom a space that they feel safe in, where they can learn and grow in, and a place where they feel like they can take risks. By offering my students different choices, I can see them becoming better-rounded individuals before sending them off to middle school.
If I can get my students to attend my class everyday, my hope then is that they will continue attending school until they graduate.
