I strongly believe that for my students, reading is sometimes an escape from their chaotic world. Vicariously living through a character or setting in a book where my kids can escape from their harsh realities is one way we can easily provide comfort through up-to-date good reads.
Unfortunately, the options of books we have at the school have been dusted off from the basement and no longer hold any connections to young adult readers. Without having the right tools, engaging reluctant readers is very difficult.
Not only will the set of "Harris and Me" novels spark interest and humor to my students, I will be able to teach and connect lessons to our state standards and learning objectives.
In addition, the extra novels on our wish list are young adult literature released in the last decade which will add extra reading support to my students. My students will enjoy reading independently on a carpet or fun chair while extending their learning and vocabulary through reading.
New Expo markers for the board will help students be able to clearly see my directions for my visual learners. The array of books will allow for my students to be able to choose a novel on their Lexile level and more importantly, read something that is interesting yet provides rigor.
All the materials on our Wish List will provide my kids a better education. Reading is key to opening the door to a wealth of knowledge!
