My school serves as the educational home to 1,813 students in Wichita, Kansas. My students are ethnically diverse: 38.94% white, 26.31% Latinx, 19.69% African American, and 15.06% other ethnicities. In addition, many come from economically disadvantaged homes (73.63%). Our school mission is "to engage students in a challenging curriculum so that they will become responsible, productive citizens who value differences and succeed in a challenging world."
My students utilize their talents to grow in respect for each other, establish and foster positive relationships, and learn to honor their responsibilities.
Their compassion for each other and determination to succeed despite life's hardships continue to inspire me. They show excitement to learn as they grow from awkward adolescents into hard-working young adults.
