These materials will give my students access to technology that they have little to no experience with. The 3 iPads and 3 Chromebooks will be used during math centers, as well as during RTI. My goal is to have an iPad in every student's hand before the end of the year. For now, rotation will be a great starting point.
The whiteboard will allow for more flexibility within my grouping. When I am with a small group, we can use the whiteboard to take notes and work out problems. It's great that I can move the board with me as I travel between groups. I can also use it for those students who have trouble seeing the classroom board. Many of my students need glasses but don't have them.
Multiplication and division boards will be especially used for those students who are two or more grade levels behind. Multiplication and division is the basis of most grade school math and without fluency with those basic facts, my students will continue to struggle with most concepts such as fractions, ratios, and percentages.
The giant timers provide a visual cue for both teachers and students. It will help me plan accordingly and help students work efficiently. Timers will be used for Do-Now activities, fluency activities, games, and to time math centers.
Students of today are no longer into lecturing, book-work, and pencil and paper. Many of the children I work with don't value education. I've had parents tell me that their child's sports comes before homework. If we want to reach them, they have to be in charge of their learning. We can't force it upon them. The only way they will take charge is by getting them engaged and desiring to do the learning activities each day.
