My students enjoy reading relevant articles of what’s in their world. They engage in reading replacing avoidance of academic tasks too difficult for them (actual or perceived). These Scholastic magazine subscriptions will replace weekly duplication of internet articles in our weekly reading circle. My students’ basic math skills are dependent upon using their fingers to find solutions. They require steps broken down with slower pacing.
Scholastic is a proven and trusted resource that promotes individual and group learning. Scholastic resources of non-fiction, even at lower reading levels sparks interest in students at higher grades. The topic-driven periodicals promotes increase in comprehension, vocabulary, fluency, phonics, and accuracy for struggling readers. Coupled with bi-weekly progress monitoring data can be monitored and assessed and reviewed.
The math resource activity books are excellent teaching and practice workbooks. These coupled with hi-weekly progress monitoring will provide the data necessary to monitor acquired skills.
Providing these resources for my students at a level they can access decreases frustration and promotes a desire for learning.
