I have a self-contained Kindergarten and 1st grade Special Education classroom that serves students with severe cognitive disabilities. All students within my classroom also have speech-language delays that impact their ability to participate in general curriculum activities with same-age peers effectively. They are all non-verbal, and they rely on pictures, gestures, signs, and vocalizations, in order to express their needs and wants, and to participate actively in class. My classroom is the only special education unit serving Kindergarten and First grade students with intellectual disabilities in the South Tampa area.
I currently have four students between the ages of 5 and 7 years old, two boys and two girls. They are happy kids, that love to come to school every day, and go home with a smile on their faces.
