Over 50% of 4th and 5th grade students at our school participate in Band. Some of them rent their own instruments, but many rely on borrowing school-owned Trumpets, Saxophones, Clarinets, etc. My teaching space is a triangular room that houses a computer desk, piano, and as many chairs and music stands as I can fit.
With my larger classes, it is hard enough to fit students in my room, let alone all of the instrument cases that take up much needed floor space. If we have a few storage shelves, I will be able to maximize the usable space in my room so that we can spend more time playing and less time tripping over instruments.
I am also asking for pencils and a pencil sharpener, because we are always writing in our music but most students do not have a spare pencil to keep with their music folder. I have tried keeping a stock of pencils in my room, but they break or get lost, and it is always helpful to have spares on hand (and a way to sharpen them!)
