My school is located in a rural area just South of a mid-sized city. That city has grown in every direction EXCEPT South. A small school almost 20 miles down the highway was consolidated with us. Some of those areas cannot even get Internet except through the old dial-up method. My students come from a mixture of backgrounds, but our school population average falls in the less educated, lower income, more unstable categories.
Parental involvement is a big weakness of the area. As the elementary counselor, I am looking for ways to connect families to school and to connect family members in activities.
