Elementary PE students engage in learning about fitness topics such as Cardio-respiratory Endurance, Muscular Strength, Muscular Endurance and Flexibility. Yes! Even in 1st grade. The goal is to expose students to exercises beyond basic push-ups, jumping jacks and sit-ups. BATTLE ROPES, SLAM BALLS, that doesn't even sound like exercise! Visualize battle ropes attached to the fence and a station with kids SLAMMING weighted balls on the ground. Many students have seen fitness activities such as Cross-fit and Ninja Warrior on TV; I am trying to bring these fun, challenging activities to them in the hopes of creating life long movers!
