We recently learned about Rube Goldberg machines and it sparked a lot of interest throughout my class. I challenged them to bring ordinary items from home and I would provide a beginners marble track. I have purchased the track with my own money after several students brought in their donations of cardboard, masking tape, marbles, and toy cars. The marble track is to help them become more familiar with chain reactions, and the ordinary items are to fuel their creativity. This project will increase critical thinking, problem solving, and perseverance. The other tools are to assist them in their trials to create their very own Rube Goldberg machine, and inspire them to improve it. Our class will have a weekly Genius Hour, where my students can explore STEAM (I include art) projects.
